Global

  • Documentation and archiving of population censuses

In partnership with various international partners, the ADP is providing technical support (software and guidelines) to help all countries document and archive all the resources of their most recent population censuses. This initiative is being implemented through regional workshops, where country delegates learn about the standards and tools available and initiate the documentation of their actual census resources, including microdata. Such workshops have already been run for Asia, English speaking Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. They complement other ADP support at the national level, in non-participating countries.  The workshops target the recent censuses not already documented – primarily in non-ADP countries.

  • Documentation and archiving of agriculture censuses

In partnership with FAO, the ADP is providing technical support (software and guidelines) to help all countries document and archive all the resources of their most recent agriculture censuses. This initiative is being implemented through regional workshops, where country delegates learn about the standards and tools available and initiate the documentation of their actual census resources, including microdata. Such workshops have already been run for Asia, English speaking Africa and the Caribbean. They complement other ADP support at the national level, in non-participating countries.  The workshops target the recent censuses not already documented – primarily in non-ADP countries.

Africa

  • Creation of the African Association of Statistical Data Archivists (AASDA)

The ADP provided financial support for the establishment of the AASDA, notably for its first regional meeting on microdata archive hosted by DataFirst, the data library at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. AASDA provides a platform for African data curation organisations – National Statistics Offices (NSOs), research organisations and Survey Data Archives – to work collaboratively. The advantages of this collaboration include access for the group to a wider range of skills and expertise, and cost-sharing and the development of collaborative systems. The Association works to provide mutual encouragement with regard to data curation in the region, in particular with regard to the development and implementation of standards and good practices in data documentation, dissemination and preservation in the region.

The establishment of an Association of Survey Data Archivists in Africa can be seen as a step towards formalizing data sharing on the continent through the creation of Survey Data Archives in African countries, and possibly facilitating linkages among them.

Asia and the Pacific

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) is the regional partner for implementation of ADP in the Pacific Island Countries. The specificities of statistical development in the Pacific makes a regional approach on microdata management very relevant.

Latin America and the Caribbean

The ADP is supporting statistical integration in Latin America, through technical assistance to the Andean Community and SICA CENTROESTAD programs, in its field of expertise. Regional integration is a recognized driver of change in Latin America for statistical systems.
