Samoa: Holds First National Survey Metadata Production Workshop in the Pacific (April 2014)

Country / Regional Activity: Samoa
Date of Event: 28/04/2014

At the request of the Samoa Bureau of Statistics (SBS) the ADP undertook a Survey Metadata Production Workshop. Part of the 2011 Population and Housing Census activities included documenting the census to international standards. This proposed activity was implemented as a national workshop held at the TATTE Convention Center, Apia on April 28 - May 2 2014. This workshop is the first national workshop in the Pacific. Previous workshops were undertaken at the regional level and organized by the Secretariat of the Pacific Communities in 2010 and 2012.

Acknowledging the importance of metadata, SBS invited other national data producers to the workshop. A total of fifteen studies were documented by twenty-two participants coming from SBS; Ministry of Education, Sports & Culture; National University of Samoa (NUS); Samoa Qualifications Authority; Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development. Studies documented included censuses, surveys, and administrative-based statistics. ADP provided the workshop facilitators.

In the same week SBS and ADP also met with data users and other data producers to get inputs for improving data dissemination in the country. A presentation of the NADA made with the research group of NUS was met with positive response. ADP foresees a continuing collaboration with Samoa.

The workshop was covered by the national press and related story can be found at the following link:
