Results
Although Guatemala joined ADP early, progress has been relatively slow for a number or reasons (population census preparation and implementation, frequent changes in management, etc.). Activities have resumed recently with the impact of SICA's integration agenda on statistical systems. Results obtained with ADP support include:
Surveys inventoried, documented and archived
- All available nationally representative surveys and censuses inventories. Some of them documented and archived.
- Capacity built within INE to document, archive and disseminate microdata. About 15 staff trained on microdata management standards, tools and practice; top management sensitized.
ADP supporting the Central America Statistical Commission (CENTROESTAD) of the Central America Integration System (SICA)
SICA´s authorities requested support to document, preserve and disseminate 26 microdatasets related to Central America Food Security. The objective is to support the indicator´s harmonization process in the framework of the PRESISAN Sub regional Project.
Guatemala INE re-engaging on improving microdata management (June 2012)
From June 18 to 22, 2012 a Microdata Management Toolkit was held in Guatemala City. A total of 12 technical staff from INE were trained and 11 surveys were documented. INE authorities are updating their microdata documentation plan in order to re-launch the initiative. INE Manangement explained to the workshop participants the relevance to continue using DDI as the official Central America standard to preserve, document and disseminate microdata.
CENTROESTAD considering DDI as a regional standard
The III Meeting of the Central-America Statistical Commission (CENTROESTAD) of the Central America Integration System (SICA) was held in San Salvador (El Salvador) on September 1-2, 2010 . The meeting was hosted by Mr. Glenn Avilez, Pro-Tempore President of CENTROESTAD and head of the National Statistical Office (NSO) of Belize. The meeting was attended by Directors and high level representatives from the national statistics offices of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama and Belize.
