Microdata Management Toolkit Training and DDI Production Workshop held in Uganda (14th-25th August 2011)

Country / Regional Activity: Uganda
Date of Event: 14/08/2011

An IHSN Microdata Management Toolkit training and DDI production workshop was held in Kampala, Uganda from 14th to 25th August 2011.
The objective of the workshop was to train 10 participants from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on the documentation of census and surveys.
The training familiarized participants on how to use the IHSN Microdata Management Toolkit and the associated documentation standards; the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) and the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI).
Presentations were made by the IT Director, Mr. Kizito Kasozi who highlighted that the main objective of the training was to build documentation, archiving and dissemination capacity at UBOS. He emphasized the importance of the participation of all survey and data managers in the documentation of ongoing and historical surveys, so to ensure that UBOS does not experience capacity constraints in future.
Finally, he expressed the commitment of the management to implement the required standards and provide adequate resources to support the documentation and dissemination activities.
IHSN and the UBOS also worked together to complete and assess the quality of the survey documentation and prepare them for dissemination online on the Uganda Bureau of Statistics NADA, which was recently upgraded.
The outputs of the workshop are capacity building, dissemination of additional surveys on UBOS survey catalog, and implementation of documentation standards at UBOS.
