Rwanda: ADP supported NISR for documenting new surveys (February 2014)

Country / Regional Activity: Rwanda
Date of Event: 17/02/2014

The National Institute of Statistics Rwanda (NISR) organized a five-day Metadata Production Workshop in Huye, Rwanda on February 17 to 21, 2014. The ADP provided two facilitators to support the NISR in their efforts to document new surveys and strengthen NISR capacity on microdata documentation and NADA management. The workshop was facilitated by ADP regional consultants Ms. Lynn Woolfrey from DataFirst, University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa and Mr. Biniyam Tadesse Awoke from Central Statistics Agency (CSA) of Ethiopia. Five participants from different departments of NISR were trained on the use of Nesstar Publisher 4.0.9 and on the use of the online survey cataloguing application (NADA 4.1). The NISR NADA (http://microdata.statistics.gov.rw/index.php/catalog) currently contains twenty-three surveys; including one direct access and sixteen public use files. The NISR presented an inventory of nine surveys to document, including the latest Rwanda Population and Housing Census 2012. They will continue the documentation in the coming weeks and expressed their commitment to internalize the data documentation processes.
