More Philippine statistical agencies trained on microdata documentation (Subic Bay, 4-8 June 2012)
Technical capacity to archive and document surveys was expanded to 4 more agencies in the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) through the conduct of the IHSN Microdata Management Toolkit Training in Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Philippines on 4 to 8 June 2012, further to the 12 agencies trained prior to 2012.
The training-workshop was held in collaboration with the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), the planning and coordinating agency of the PSS, which identifies priority agencies with designated statistics to be trained. The activity underscores the commitment of the PSS, through NSCB Resolution No. 10 s. 2010, “Enjoining Agencies in the Philippine Statistical System to Archive and Document Microdata Using International Standards”, to improve the management of its microdata.
The 4 agencies include: Department of Education; Department of Energy; Department of Social Welfare and Development; and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, who all gave positive feedback on the usefulness and benefits of the Toolkit. They were joined by 4 other agencies who participated in previous trainings. In total, 16 surveys and 4 administrative-based statistics were documented by 27 participants in the workshop.
Currently, the major statistical agencies: National Statistics Office; Bureau of Agricultural Statistics; and Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics, maintain their respective NADAs.
