Philippines: More of Philippines’ agricultural surveys documented (April 2014)
Staff of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) who came from the former Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) conducted a Survey Metadata Production Workshop in Tanza, Cavite on April 7-11, 2014 and documented seven surveys. The workshop was organized by the BAS Technical Working Group on Metadata Documentation and was fully funded from the agency’s budget. The workshop was opened by Ms. Ratelieta Millendez, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Assistant Director. There were twenty-six participants present at the workshop comprising of twelve data analysts, seve reviewers, two data managers, two administrators of BEANS (http://beans.bas.gov.ph/index.php/catalog), and three support personnel. ADP provided the facilitators of the workshop.
The ADP is focusing more on the partnership between data analysts and data managers. The objective is to make data management more user-friendly.
The importance of metadata documentation in preserving institutional memory was acknowledged in view of the upcoming staff movement as a result of the creation of the PSA in December 2013. All the documented surveys will be uploaded in BEANS by June, before staff from the BAS occupy their new positions in the PSA.
