Results obtained with ADP support include:
Survey microdata made accessible
- National Survey catalog available on DANE website (see URL above).
- All available nationally representative surveys and censuses documented, archived and disseminated.
- Capacity built and sustained within DANE, DNP, and selected line ministries to document, archive and disseminate microdata - as standard processes of every survey undertaken. About 15 staff trained on microdata management standards, tools and practice; top management sensitized.

Activities
The above results have been achieved with the implementation of specific ADP activities. These activities were identified and prioritized for implementation at the early stages of ADP involvement. These activities have been / are implemented in accordance with the country NSDS (Plan Estratégico Nacional de Estadisticas - PENDES) and its own agenda. They involve a balance between work in-country and remote support, and they require the provision of tools, guidelines, technical and financial assistance.
Making survey microdata more accessible
- Carrying out local inventory of existing survey resources (microdatasets, reports, questionnaires, field enumerator manuals, methodological and technical reports, etc.).
- Building capacity on microdata documentation, archiving and dissemination at DANE, DNP and line Ministries (8 national training workshops organized).
- Facilitating the documentation of all inventoried surveys – through the provision of adequate training, software and guidelines.
- Facilitating the long term preservation of micro-datasets – through the provision of adequate hardware and guidelines.
- Establishing a national survey catalog, with a view to make existing survey metadata and microdata visible, searchable and more accessible to users.
- Launching the on-line survey catalog with a dedicated public communication event to increase Users’ awareness.
- Regularly upgrading and updating the on-line survey catalog.
On-going and future activities include:
- Promoting harmonization of survey methodologies.
- Building capacity in microdata anonymization at DANE.
- Strengthening capacity in microdata documentation, archiving and dissemination in line ministries and lead NGOs involved in the country.
- Engaging further with data users and monitoring the use of survey microdata.

Colombia: Microdata Outreach Workshop (October 2014)
A Microdata Outreach Workshop for both users and producers was co-hosted by the National Statistics Office of Colombia (DANE) and the ADP on 20 – 22 October 2014. The objectives of this 3 day workshop was to promote data available at DANE, along with their newly extended data archive. This workshop facilitated the dialogue between users and producers on data availability, access, use and ways to collaborate in the future, with DANE as the official coordinator of the National Statistical System. The first day was divided up into two main sessions aimed ar raising awareness among users and producers on the importance of using statistics for decision-making.Colombia: An archive for the National Statistical System (June 2014)
An ADP mission was carried out in Colombia from June 16-22 to install a central National Data Archive (NADA). This data archive uses the collections feature in the NADA application to allow different producers to manage their own collections. The following institutions are part of the central NADA: National Statistics Office (DANE), Central Bank, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Planning (DNP), Ministry of Labour (SENA), Penitentiary Service (INPEC), National Health Institute (INS), National General Accounting Office (CGN), PROFAMILIA Social and the Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF).
Colombia: Microdata management critical in monitoring and evaluation (May 2013)
The National Department of Planning (DNP by its Spanish Acronym) is the Colombian Agency that leads the activities of Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Policies in Colombia. Private consulting firms are hired through competitive process to collect and analyze data on public policies for these evaluations. DNP authorities currently include microdata documentation as a requirement in the Terms of Reference (TOR) of this bidding processes - recommending the use of the DDI standard and the IHSN Microdata Management Toolkit.
A Toolkit workshop will be held on May 7 -10, 2013, for the consultants hired recently.
Colombia: DANE progressing on DDI expansion with other statistical producers (April 2013)
As a part of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) strategy to promote improved microdata management in the Colombia Statistical System, DDI awareness events and basic training are being supported by the ADP. About 100 public officers from forty-three statistical agencies have been trained. Eighteen agencies are currently documenting their own microdatasets. Once these datasets are quality controlled, they are uploaded to DANE´s NADA on-line survey catalog, which contains more than 100 different survey - with more than twenty public use microdata files ready for download.
Colombia DANE expands microdata documentation to the private sector (July 2012)
A total of 31 participants attended the workshop held in the City of Bogotá, Colombia from July 22 to 28, 2012. Most participants were National Department of Planning staff (17) and the others came from private consulting firms. This was the first Microdata Management Toolkit workshop to include private firms involved through contracting processes of data collection data and analysis of DNP’s main public policies. The majority of the statistical operations documented were related to data for public programs impact evaluation.
