The ADP has been engaging countries in regional workshops dedicated to developing data dissemination policies. In 2014, several such regional workshops were undertaken. This is the first to focus specifically on developing coherent microdata dissemination policies in Asia. PARIS21, in collaboration with UN Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP), conducted a regional training course on the National Strategies for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) on December 9-12, 2014 at UNSIAP in Chiba, Japan. This training course was designed to introduce high level country representatives in the new NSDS Guidelines. NADA Administrators from fifteen agencies in eleven countries of Asia and the Pacific gathered in Bonifacio Global City, Metro Manila, Philippines on June 25-27, 2013 for a regional training workshop on NADA 4.0. The workshop began with sessions on upgrading the NADAs from version 3 to version 4. The sessions that followed were on site administration, implementing quality control measures, and learning the new features of NADA. In its efforts to assist national statistics offices in enhancing the dissemination of their products, ADP is providing assistance to several countries in the formulation of their Microdata Dissemination Policy. ADP is currently working with Georgia GEOSTAT, Cambodia’s National Institute of Statistics and the Lao Statistics Bureau, both in the final stages of the policy design. The objective is to clarify who can access which type of microdata under which conditions, in accordance with the legal and strategic national contexts....

The Third Group Training Course in the Production and Development of Official Statistics (in support for National Development including the Achievement of MDGs) conducted by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific in Chiba, Japan included a short module on microdata access and survey documentation. The 25 participants came from 15 countries, namely, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, India, Iraq, Lao P.D.R., Lesotho, Micronesia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Samoa, Syria and Tanzania....

In its desire to cater to a majority of its local users, Lao Statistics Bureau (LSB) is taking steps towards posting survey documentation in LNADA (www.lsb.gov.la/nada) in both English and Lao. LSB is using portable NADA to test a couple of options. Test results will be presented by ADP to other interested countries.

Improved capacity to document surveys was recently seen in Lao People’s Democratic Republic after the conduct of the DDI Production Workshop held last 07 to 11 May 2012 in Vientiane Province. The Lao Statistics Bureau (LSB), which was recently upgraded to bureau-level from department-level (formerly the Department of Statistics), organized the workshop, as well as a subsequent meeting with some agencies and stakeholders to further advocate microdata documentation and archiving....

The Department of Statistics (DoS) of Lao PDR announced the availability of metadata of eight surveys in the NADA in a ceremony held in Vientiane City last 30 June 2010. More survey metadata will be uploaded in the coming weeks as documentation is in progress following the recent Quality Review Workshop held in Vang Vieng, Vientiane Province which boosted the capacity of DoS staff in the use of the Toolkit.
The event was attended by around 20 staff from different ministries, as well as key staff from DoS led by Deputy Director General Yavang Vachoima....

At least 20 surveys of Lao PDR will be archived by April next year in accordance with IHSN standards after 15 participants were trained on the IHSN Microdata Management Toolkit in Vientiane on 16-20 November 2009. The training-workshop was opened by Deputy Director General Yavang Vachoima, in behalf of Director General Samaychanh Boupha who was attending the Paris21 Consortium Meeting in Dakar.
